THURSDAY 10TH APRIL 2014

A wet autumn week in melbourne, Thursday lunch time we found out where we we off too! Thankfully not an outdoor summer venue!

BOUZY ROUGE

Perfect! Described as authentic spanish / portuguese style cuisine with a tapas and main menu, we were excited to try somewhere completely new for both of us!

ENTREE (aka TAPAS menu)

It seems we have trended towards ordering a lot of food on Jar Fed nights, we just want to try everything! so why would tonight be different! Surely two tapas to share would be ok!

Roll one – #8 – Ceviche of tuna, blackened corn, tomato and amarillo chilli

Raw Fish! Elaines favourite LOL the idea of Jar Fed actually was born while eating raw fish at Japanese!

Unsure how it would be presented we thought we were safe ordering two choices from the tapas menu, Ceviche, generally not a large dish. This was a decent size, it was also a nice surprise, it was fresh and light, and very different from the plain japanese raw fish we had tasted in the past.

It wasn’t spicy but there was a nice little kick, certainly not a boring tomato sauce! A great little starter dish.

Roll two – #11 – Black tiger prawns, chilli, garlic and lemon

There are many combinations made in heaven, one of them is garlic & prawns! Surely a popular choice on the menu, our expectations were high and this dish did not disappoint. We can’t say much more than DELICIOUS !

MAIN (As usual minus the salads, because salad isn’t a main meal!)

ELAINE – #6

Caldeirada
A Portuguese stew of clams, prawns, fish, squid and risoni

Looking at the menu, this was a choice both of us would order in a heartbeat, sounds delicious. It was tasty, however not amazing. It was seafood in a tomato based sauce, nothing outstanding and memorable. It was nice.

BEZ – #8

Roast Piri Piri Chicken with potatoes and peppers

Opposed to the risoni, the piri piri chicken was not mine or Elaine’s first choice on the menu.

Here is the beauty of Jar Fed, roll something you wouldn’t normally order and really enjoy it ! The piri piri was different and each mouthful was a delight. It was a dish that made you feel warm on the inside.

DESSERT

Roll #3 – Bread and butter pudding, caramelised apple and vanilla bean gelato

For the second time tonight, we rolled our least desirable dish. Bread and butter pudding, boring? Not in the slightest, OH MY GOD, it was amazing. I didn’t even read that you had to allow 10 minutes on the menu. That 10 minutes allowed our entrees and mains to settle. Perfect! It was a delicious warm ending to the meal.

Bouzy Rouge is warm and inviting and the decor is all class. We felt welcome upon entry and the service is what you would expect for the price range.

It was a Jar Fed experience we imagined when we first brainstormed the idea! We rolled meals that we wouldn’t normally order and they exceeded all expectations!
