MoVida Next Door is a more casual walk-in restaurant not surprisingly next door to MoVida! A Spanish tapas and share plate restaurant located right in the heart of Melbourne.

MoVida Next Door is on the corner of Flinders Street and Hosier Lane, which is a cool arty Melbourne laneway. Its quite a small restaurant, but the vibe is warm and friendly and it didn’t take too long to get a table.

TAPA

#10 – Tortilla – Organic Egg, Potato & Caramelized Onion

IMG_8698

Not what I expected! I was expecting a Mexican style tortilla. However we were not disappointed, the frittata style dish was packed a punch with flavor, it was fresh and delicious.

$1 Donation to the Citizen Advocacy Trust of Australia

The bread is treated as a donation to the Citizen Advocacy Trust of Australia, which is a trust that provides grants to programs that help unpaid citizens get recruited. So no one is going to say no to $1 going to a good cause.

#7 – Croqueta – Wild Mushroom

IMG_8703

We both love mushrooms and you would certainly have too if you choose this dish. The croquettes were jam packed with mashed mushroom, which was an odd texture and perhaps even a little too much for us. They were nice but didn’t stand out.

RACIONES

#2 – Berenjenas – Eggplant Chips with Salmorejo

IMG_8705

I was excited to try eggplant chips, something different! The sauce that accompanied them was very tasty, but the chips themselves needed more crunch. The crumb was great, if they were just that little bit more crispy they would have been a standout.

#1 -Patatas Panadera – Bakers Potatoes with Olive Oil, Peppers & Garlic

IMG_8707

Another dish which was a little bit of a surprise, but not in a good way. Spanish Patatas bravas are so delicious that i thought it would be something along those lines, but unfortunately these were a let down. The combination was uninteresting.

SPECIAL

Gamba Prawns with Chorizo Peas

IMG_8702

There was a variety of specials displayed above the bar, they all sounded delicious so it was a tough choice, but we do love prawns! As they arrived we were told to not leave them too long in the liquid because they continue to cook, so we got those bad boys out of the dish, but it was already too late, unfortunately they were overcooked and dry.

POSTRE

#3 – MENJAS BLANC- Almond panna cotta with mandarin & fennel

IMG_8708

The dessert looked amazing, presentation wise 10/10 which was exciting, however the taste didn’t live up to the hype created by your eyes. The mandarin was a bit tart and the panna cotta itself had very little taste, making the dessert disappointing and quite bland.

#5 -Tarta De Queso – Goat’s Milk Cheesecake with Rhubarb Sorbet

IMG_8709

The cheesecake was deconstructed, which made the plate interesting. however the elements on there own were not tasty. Together, it was a different and unique cheesecake, so in our opinion should be presented as a cake to be enjoyed all together.

The vibe of MoVida Next Door is fun and cool. Its situated in a very trendy lane and the service inside is super friendly. We loved the feel and warmth the place had, but were disappointed with the food for value for money. It isn’t cheap and we had higher expectations for the top bracket.

There were no particular standout dishes that we would want to rush back for. In our opinion, in a city so spoilt for choice, you could spend less money for a better quality meal.
