Baby Cafe & Pizzeria is an Italian restaurant located on Church Street, Richmond. Owned by the same person as Chin Chin & Kong (Chris Lucas) there was a lot of hype when it first opened!

They have adopted the same walk-in policy, however bonus is, it isn’t as crazy busy as its sister restaurants, so we didn’t have to wait 2 hours for a table, infact we were fortunate enough to be seated straight away!

SALUMI & MOZZARELLA AND SMALL TASTES MENU

#2 – Piselli Prosciutto E Mozzarella Di Bufala

Buffalo Mozzarella, San Daniele Prosciutto, shaved Pecorino, Peas, Mint

This is not a dish either of us would usually order and there was a lot of prosciutto for one person, but I guess if you loved prosciutto you’d be in heaven! It was very refreshing and a great change for an entree, all elements were fresh and worked really well together. It isn’t something we would order on our own but maybe as a dish to share between a few people.

PASTA

#3 – Orecchiette Con Verdure

Orecchiette Pasta, Peas, Broad Beans, Zucchini, Dill, Reggiano

The pasta was delicious, fresh pasta makes a real difference to the dish! The Reggiano cheese made it creamy and rich. Not a massive serve for the price but it was all you need. Not sure if we would order it on our own but it was great as a share dish with other things.

PIZZA

Funghi

Buffalo Taleggio, Fior Di Latte, Sauteed Wild Mushrooms, Thyme

I was concerned for the Taleggio cheese, it has a very strong unique flavour but this pizza really worked. It was delicious! The cheese had a crisp kick too it which worked really well with the mushrooms and woodfire base. The base was the perfect thickness and cooked well! YUMMO!

DESSERT

SFINCI AL CIOCCOLATO
Hot Cinnamon Doughnuts, Chocolate Sauce

Elaine had seen the doughnuts on urbanspoon and they looked amazing! The doughnuts themselves were delicious the only thing that let them down was the hard Nutella, if that was slightly warm and runny it would have been a lot easier to coat the doughnuts!

Hazelnut Gelati

Simply put this gelati is AMAZING! The Nutella chunks through the gelati are delicious, you basically can’t go wrong! 10 out of 10 from both of us!

Was Baby ever going to be on the same level as Chin Chin ? We don’t believe so, it’s pretty hard to consistently reach those highs and we believe Chin Chin is probably the best restaurant going around in Melbourne! But that isn’t to say Baby isn’t delicious.

Situated at the bottom end of Church Street, Richmond, location probably plays a part in not having to wait as long for a table! The Scandinavian style interior and neon lights add a cool funky vibe to the place, however all the wood did make it rather loud. Upon entry you are greeted with the amazing smells Italian food has to offer!

We had great service and fantastic fresh food so we would definitely head back!
