Rococo Italian Restaurant has two locations in Melbourne, Hawthorn and St Kilda. We visited the Acland Street, St Kilda restaurant. The menu is HUGE, a variety of what you would expect from Italian food, antipasto, pizzas, pastas and risotto’s. A large restaurant which is consistently busy! We decided we would roll two entree’s from the antipasto menu, a roll for a risotto and a gnocchi. Oh and of course, finish with a dessert!

ENTREE

#8 – Roasted Cauliflower – Romesco Sauce, Toasted Pinenuts

IMG_0909

We both love cauliflower, so we were happy to roll this to start off our meal! It was yum, however the name suggests roasted cauliflower so we weren’t expecting it to be cold! nevertheless it a different dish to what we would normally order and it was actually really nice so we would order it again.

#2 – Crumbed Calamari – Fennel Salt, Caper Mayonnaise

We both love calamari but you couldn’t taste the fennel salt on these, they were more pub grub, basic calamari rings, certainly not exciting, edible, but we probably would order other things over these.

GNOCCHI

#1 – Gnocchi Bolognese – Potato Gnocchi, Bolognese sauce, parmesan, fresh herbs

IMG_0912

We were divided on the gnocchi, Elaine prefers gnocchi with a more interesting sauce, she finds bolognese to be a bit middle of the road / boring, however I have to disagree, If I am going to have bolognese I like it with a good gnocchi. The gnocchi isn’t too overpowering and lets the flavours of the bolognese be the star of the show! If you are a fan of the traditional sauce, this is delicious!

RISOTTO

#6 – Pan Fried Prawn Risotto – Cherry tomatoes, mint, pistachio nuts, fresh dill, olive oil

The Risotto was delicious! An amazing combination at the best of times, this was cooked to perfection! Yum, Yum, Yum all the flavours complemented each other, the prawns were super tasty, certainly a dish we both loved and we both would love to go back for!

DESSERT

#9- Warm Chocolate Fudge Brownie – Peanuts, caramel, peanut crunch ice-cream

IMG_0917

A popular combination of peanut and chocolate! very on trend, however I for one am not the biggest fan of the peanut dessert. The flavours do compliment each other, we both thought the brownie would be a little richer and warmer than it was, this wasn’t our first choice for dessert so we were both pleasantly surprised that it wasn’t super heavy. An enjoyable finish to a meal.

For a large restaurant, Rococo St Kilda has a lovely warm feel, they have broken it into sections which make it feel a bit more intimate than it is. Fantastic art work on the walls creates a fun hip vibe, perfect for dinner and drinks with friends!

We had fantastic service, which doesn’t always happen from the Acland street restaurants, this was probably the best service we’ve had in that area. The food smelt amazing on arrival and didn’t disappoint! A great Italian restaurant that we will defiantly be recommending and heading back to ourselves soon!
