To this edition of Jar-Fed we welcomed guests Oisin (Elaine’s fiancé, congratulations guys, still sounds weird!) and our work buddy Allan, who had been to Meatmother before and was keen to head back!

Also bonus side note, Gelato Messina has opened its Richmond shop just a few doors down, so obviously we went across the road for dessert! (sorry Meatmother, we can’t resist the gelato!)

#6 – Pork Scratchings

IMG_0969

No one was thrilled we rolled this dish, what are pork scratchings? the hard fatty bits of pork? ergh. Incorrect! they are delicious porky flavoured sort of prawn cracker texture chips and they are pretty YUMMY!

#5 – Pickles

IMG_0970

We weren’t excited about this role either, I was expecting a full pickle but some pickled veggies was better than expected, they were alright, maybe better as a side rather than starter? However, they were actually quite delicious on top of the pork scratchings. The Boys not such big fans!

MEAT TRAY

#1 – Wagyu Brisket

IMG_0977

The brisket was tender and delicious, slow cooked to perfection. The problem with Meatmother is picking which meats to have, its pretty safe to say you won’t be disappointed with any of them! One of each please!

#3 – Pulled Pork

IMG_0974

The pulled pork was juicy and I don’t think this photo does the size of the serve justice, you got a good quantity per serve!

#4 – Pasture-fed Beef Short Rib

IMG_0978

The beef fell off the rib, it was certainly cooked to perfection and melted in your mouth! One of the best beef ribs going around in Melbourne at the moment! Tops scores all around says it all!

#6 – New York Striploin

IMG_0975

Scores are a bit spread out, depending on which part of the striploin you got! Elaine and Oisin thought it was a bit chewy, perhaps when they got it, Allan and I had taken the nicer parts, oops! I thought it was fantastic, one of the meats I would get as a dish to myself!

#3 – Mac Cheese

IMG_0974

Mac and cheese has started gracing the menu at a lot of places, Oisin’s comment was that he didn’t like some of the others, but he LOVED this one and clearly Allan agreed scoring it a 10, very cheesy!

Great to add a little freshness to the plate! Peas seem to be really popular at the moment and they are quite delicious teamed with feta and mint.

#1 – Chipotle Slaw

IMG_0975

Coleslaw is a great match-up with these slow cooked meats and again as with the fries we would all order it again but it certainly wasn’t memorable or amazing. Its a tasty coleslaw none-the-less.

Texas Toast

This is an O.M.G moment if you ever have one at a restaurant, how do you make bread exciting? I don’t know but the good people at Meatmother certainly do ! You won’t understand until you have it, and trust us, you need to go and have it!! Its AMAZING!

A         Yes                  9             Yes

O         Yes                9.5            Yes

Meatmother is a fantastic share restaurant, yes you can go by yourself, meat party of 1! or a couple, but then you only get to experience (depending on your appetites one or two, perhaps 3 of the meats!) But its great to get a variety and share!

From Allan’s previous experience, he had the pulled pork in the past, there is a lot of pulled pork for one person, but going in a group of 4 or more you get to try more of the meats & sides and have variety !

We had heard good things about Meatmother and without a doubt it lived up to the hype! By far one of Jar-Feds top rated with nothing less than a 9.5 score!
