Easeys Burgers is located on Easey Street, Collingwood. It’s hard to miss with 3 train carriages poking out the top of the building 5 stories up! The retro train carriages which were in operation in Melbourne prior to being put out to pasture have been fitted with tables, a bar and bathrooms. A real trip down memory lane if you used to spend time on these old trains!

MAIN LINE

MELBOURNE MADNESS – Double patty, triple american cheddar, bacon, jalepenos, pickles, onions, ketchup & mustard

EXPECTATION

REALITY

IMG_1339

The Melbourne madness is a signature burger which cannot be found anywhere else, loaded with a dim sim and potato cake! We had to give it a try, very difficult to split between 5 people but we all had a bite! We all prefer a traditional burger and wouldn’t normally order this kind of thing and wouldn’t order it again. Novel idea for a bit of fun! The staged pics make it look a lot more epic than it is in reality!

ORDER OUR OWN BURGER

EASEY CHEESY – Beef patty, american cheddar, lettuce, tomato, pickles, onions, ketchup, mustard & mayo

IMG_1338

We all ordered our own burgers because burgers are difficult to cut up and share! Considering we usually share both mains it seemed unfair to make our visitors roll for their burger and order one they wouldn’t usually eat. Elaine, Bez & Brian ate the Easey Cheesy (Elaine with additional cheesy mac) Bianca ordered the Too Ease and Ben had the Rowdy Double Cheeseburger.

Bianca didn’t realise what her burger was when she ordered it, she thought the Too Ease came with lettuce and tomato as well so she was very disappointed with her choice! The rest of us liked our burgers but we didn’t LOVE them. Mine and Elaines were a bit cold by the time they arrived at our table. Elaine didn’t like that the bun was not toasted!

REGULAR CHIPS – Crispy fried chips with chicken salt

Who doesn’t love a side of chips? they were fat, crunchy and delicious coated in chicken salt. Pretty much a given that we would all order them again!

CHILLI CHIPS – Chips with mild beef chilli, coriander & sour cream

IMG_1334

This was an introduction to Chilli Chips or Taco Chips as the Irish call them to Bianca, she loves spicy food but has yet to experience the deliciousness of these kind of chips, she LOVED them! A winning combination on crispy chips, you can’t go wrong!

EGGPLANT CHIPS – crispy fried house made eggplant chips

IMG_1336

Eggplant chips aren’t what the majority of us would normally order but these were delicious, fantastic crispy batter, not oily or soggy. YUM, surprisingly a side we would all order again!

POTATO CAKE – double fried Melbourne bitter battered

IMG_1332

Crispy fresh batter and a great amount of potato with a delicious seasoning, these were yum! Potato cakes & Burgers are a great combination for most of us!

4 PACK DIM SIMS – double fried Melbourne bitter battered &

CHICKEN BITES – Four southern fried chicken pieces

IMG_1337

The dim sims were great quality bite sized, again had a great batter which sets them apart from your local fish and chip shop or milk bar. If you like dim sims then they are definitely worth a try.

Brian        No                 8              No

Ben        Yes                 7              Yes

These chicken bites were nearly burnt to a crisp! very disappointing and dry. The perinnaise dipping sauce was yum but also needed to get them down, some of them were pretty close to inedible, they definitely should not have left the kitchen. Perhaps Ben got the only decent one!

DESSERT

DOUGHNUT – Filled with milkshake flavoured custard
IMG_1341

Tonight’s milkshake flavour was banana, it was that very sweet fake banana flavour that you either like or don’t! The doughnut itself was quite a bit smaller than described by our waiter but if you like doughnuts, then you will probably like this and be surprised by what flavour they come up with for the week!

2 PACK POP TARTS – deep fried pop tarts

IMG_1340

Think McDonalds apple pie, apple and cinnamon deep fried goodness! Most of us were pleasantly surprised we weren’t sure what kind of pop tart they would be as there seem to be a variety if you google, but these are the ones (minus the deep fried part) I remember from my child hood coming out of the toaster. YUM!

What did we think overall ? Were the burgers delicious? Yes they were, did they stand out above other burger restaurants that have recently popped up all over Melbourne? No they did not.

Easey’s have created a fun novel restaurant that a lot of people will visit, three stories of dining all train inspired, topped off with the three carriages completely decked out. Its the kind of place you would visit for fun and would be better in the summer time, with seating available in-between the carriages, the kind of place you would take tourists and visitors to Melbourne.

But living in Melbourne ourselves we’d head back if we were around the area but we wouldn’t make a special trip to Collingwood to curb our burger cravings.

Hmm heard mixed reviews about the burgers here. The sides look tastier!

I was there several times. The first few times: Too Ease: $10, Rowdy Double Cheeseburger: $12, Melbourne Madness: $18. Last time there at the end of July 2015: Too Ease: $14, Rowdy Double Cheeseburger: $17, Melbourne Madness: $23.
The value before price increase was only alright. Will avoid at all costs in the future.
