House of Hoi An is located just off Chapel Street. Their website boasts that it is owned and operated by “Trinh Diem Vy is one of Vietnam’s most recognised restaurateurs and chefs. Ms Vy is a third generation cook whose family recipes have garnered recognition throughout the country.”

Her goal was to bring “decades of culinary experience and devotion to classic, impeccably prepared Vietnamese cuisine to Melbourne.”

These were delicious rice paper rolls, super fresh and presented in a cute dish. They were definitely our highlight for the night and a great start to any meal. YUM!

#5 – Rockling with Dill – Cha Ca Thi La

Rockling pan seared with dill, tumeric and galangal served with rice noodles

Jar-Fed wouldn’t be complete without a fish dish! This dish smelt fabulous! and looked so pretty but there was just too much dill. Its a great flavour but can be overpowering. We felt this dish would have gone better with rice rather than noodles, the rice could have soaked up the delicious flavours better and would also add more variety.

#6 -Chicken Hot Pot with Mushrooms – Lau Nam Ga

Slow cooked country hen with red dates, wild mushrooms and “eight treasures” rice and egg noodles, sesame dip and fresh herbs

IMG_2927

The goal of House of Hoi An is to bring authentic Vietnamese to Melbourne which is what this dish does successfully, however being usually spoilt with different cuts of meat its hard to look past the oil. The chicken was very tender and delicious, it was a unique dish that was very wintry and would be great on a cold winters night. The theater with bringing it to the boil at the table made it a little bit more exciting than just any regular dish.

You won’t miss House of Hoi An on Green Street, its brightly painted building becomes even more fabulous at night, lit up by lights.

The food for us wasn’t so amazing that we would have to run back quickly and take all our friends, but the service was amazing! Everyone was so nice and helpful and really made you feel welcome and that lifted the whole experience. We would definitely recommend a visit to experience for yourself.
