WEDNESDAY 28TH SEPTEMBER 2016

Mamasita claim to be the first Mexican in Melbourne to offer an alternate to Tex Mex, maybe they started the trend that has evolved with many other places offering authentic Mexican food, if this is the case we thank them, because Mexican food is delicious! We were excited to checkout what they had to offer!

TOSTADAS

#3 – Mojo Chicken – with refried beans, chicken chicharron & lime

The topping on the Mojo chicken was delicious, a great combination of flavours! The corn chip they sat upon was the let down, they seemed stale, we weren’t sure if thats how they were supposed to be, or we got some duds, but it was a bit disappointing.

BEACH N’ STREET FAVES

#6 – Pork Tamale – corn husk wrapped tamal, pasilla salsa & crema

This dish was unique, it was very cool how it was served out of corn leaves and chargrilled. The pork was delicious, our only complaint was not enough creama! One we would go back for, great presentation.

TACOS

#2 – Prawn – braised school prawn a la diabla, guajillo chili, avocado, onion & coriander

The tacos were so disappointing, when you think of Mexican food, its one of the first dishes that comes to mind so should be a stand out, but these were very very spicy and there wasn’t a lot of prawns, just a real let down in our opinion.

This dish is what won all the points at Mamasita, It was delicious! a great size serve, that perfectly fell of the bone, amazing! definitely up with the best ribs we’ve tasted! We would head back just for this dish!

DESSERT

Winter Plantain Sundae

The dessert was something a bit different, Elaine wasn’t a fan of the weird mushy banana situation that was going on but it had overall a really good flavour and different textures to it.

The service was fantastic once you are seated, we weren’t the biggest fans of lining up the stairs to get a table of 2. If it was any other day and we had to line up, we would have probably gone to another restaurant close by for dinner, but they have been doing it for years so it must be working for them and we weren’t the only ones in the line!

It wasn’t our favourite Mexican restaurant we have been too, but the sticky beef rib really did win us over and a few extra points! If it was a quiet day and we didn’t have to line up we would probably be back, but not something we’d queue up for.
