$$$ A La Bouffe, 268 Toorak Road, South Yarra

A La Bouffe French Restaurant is located in South Yarra Melbourne. They offer an experience in authentic traditional French dining. The menu is extensive but we decided we would try the weekday special which is $55 per head for 3 courses, BARGAIN!

#2 – Souffle Au Fromage – twice baked cheese souffle

This was one of Elaine’s favourties for the night, I thought it was OK but not something I’d rush back for. Elaine loved the flavour combination, something a bit different you don’t see at every restaurant.

#3 – Entree Du Jour – Entree Special – Tuna Tartare

I absolutely loved this dish, it was one of my favourites of the night! Elaine felt like it had too much pepper, I thought it was light and fresh and a great summery dish.

#1- Steak Au Poivre – porterhouse steak with peppercorn sauce

This isn’t a cut of steak either of us usually order, we felt like it was a tad overcooked whether that’s because we are used to pub steak that is slightly under-cooked or it was a bit dry. Pepper sauce isn’t our favourite of sauces either, it was tasty but not a steak we would rush back for.

B         Yes                 7               No

#4 – Ravioli Au Fromage De Chevre – Goat cheese ravioli with spinach, sweet potato, caramelized onion and Parmesan cheese

We were again split with this dish, I thought it was delicious, one of the best pastas I’ve had in awhile but Elaine wasn’t as big a fan. I thought the combination was fantastic and would definitely head back here for this pasta!

E         Yes                 7              Maybe

B         Yes                10               Yes

#1 – Mousse Au Chocolat – chocolate mousse with praline cream

Wowzer this was one rich dish! I would challenge someone to be able to eat it on their own and finish it! A very heavy dessert, but still delicious for a few mouthfuls!

        Usually            Score          Order

          Order?              /10          Again?

E         Yes                6.5             No

B          No                7               No

#2 – Crème brûlée A L’Orange – Orange creme brulee

One of Elaine’s favourite desserts is creme brulee, but this wasn’t one of her favourites, she has had better before, she also isn’t the biggest fan of orange custard so that didn’t help, I on the other hand love orange in desserts, a little bit of this and the chocolate mousse together, YUM!

        Usually            Score          Order

          Order?              /10          Again?

E         Yes                 6                No

B          No                 9               Yes

We were very split on most of the meals here! We loved the opposite dish which is unusual for us! The service was good and the place was very cute. The banquet menu is actually pretty good value $55 for 3 courses so that was a plus!

Another plus was the wine list! They had great wines which matched the food! I don’t know if we would rush back, but there was definitely some great qualities, we have had better French experiences in Melbourne though.

            Overall                  Back

          Score /10               Soon?

Elaine     6.5            Maybe for the banquet again

Bez          7             Maybe for the banquet again
