$$$ Richmond Oysters, 437-443 Church Street, Richmond

Richmond Oysters is an original from the jar, put in because it is consistently rated one of the top seafood restaurants in Melbourne. We both love seafood so we were always going to have high expectations when it was finally pulled out!

The fish was what you would expect from a top rated seafood restaurant, super fresh, melt in your mouth, absolute perfection. Elaine would have liked more variety maybe 1 or 2 different kinds of fish on the plate just to experience a few more types.

We are not famous for loving oysters but when at an oyster bar we have to give them a shot so we went the easy option and choose a variety of cooked. YUM, loved all three types, they were all different and fresh and a great mix of flavours, for non oyster lovers to love these they must be fantastic, we would definitely get them again!

#6 – Snapper (we choose garlic butter & mash potato)

Two words, ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS !! This did not let the reputation of fresh fish down, everything on the plate was amazing, the fish was super fresh, the sides were amazing, the fish was cooked to perfection and was complemented by the garlic butter. yum yum yum ! Couldn’t fault anything on the plate.

#3 – Marinara – Risotto – local marinara, chilli, tomato

We were actually swamped with food, so completely forgot to get a photo of this dish. The big let down of the night, by the time we got to this dish it was mush, it was made far too early and seemed without any love compared to the other dishes. With other amazing fish on the menu we wouldn’t order what seemed like the off cuts put together again.

Golden Gaytime – honeycomb parfait, peanuts, chocolate

As a homage to streets golden gaytime this is perfect, great combination of flavours, honeycomb – yum, chocolate – yum, peanuts – yum. Great dessert to end the evening.

Overall Richmond Oysters on the freshness and quality of their food, YES! they absolutely nailed it. On the ambiance and service for the price, it was a little lacking.

We were asked if we wanted to share the food, yes we did, but did we want our entrees and mains to come out at the same and not even fit all the food on the table, no we did not! You would think for the amount of money you are spending this kind of thing would be a given and you wouldn’t need to say please bring the sashimi and oysters first and the mains later.

Unfortunately this meant the risotto was not great when we got to it, would it have been better fresh, perhaps! The food was fabulous and if the service was a little better it could absolutely be above a 9 but this did effect our experience.
